An oxidation catalytic converter (oxi-cat) is a retrofit cat for diesel vehicles that are not low on emissions or are classified as Euro 0. Diesels fitted with an HJS oxi-cat satisfy emissions class Euro 1 and in some cases even Euro 2.
The oxi-cat oxidises unburnt hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) converting them to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). This chemical reaction requires an adequate supply of oxygen.
