<\/em>Menden, August 2018 – On her summer tour, NRW Environment Minister Heinen-Esser made a stop at HJS in Menden to find out about retrofit solutions for city buses and light commercial vehicles. <\/em><\/p>\n\n

<\/em>NRW Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser (CDU) visited the medium-sized company HJS in Menden on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. HJS currently offers retrofit solutions for diesel buses that meet the requirements of the certification regulation and therefore also the funding guidelines of the Federal Ministry of Transport. <\/p>\n\n

Heinen-Esser: Consistent retrofitting as an “important key”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

During her visit to the company, Minister Heinen-Esser made it clear how important efficient yet low-emission engine and catalytic converter technology is for improved air quality in cities – especially in conurbations. The Minister described consistent hardware retrofitting as “an important key.” <\/p>\n\n

Active thermal management for buses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Retrofitting with the proven HJS SCRT\u00ae<\/sup> technology – enhanced with active thermal management – reduces nitrogen oxide emissions in buses in urban operation by over 90 percent in some cases. And that on any route and at any time of year. Retrofitting buses with this HJS technology is therefore one of the most effective and efficient measures to reduce nitrogen oxides in cities and thus actively contribute to avoiding driving bans. Local public transport can thus be brought up to Euro VI level quickly and cost-effectively. In line with the funding guidelines published in March, the retrofitting is largely financed by the federal government. <\/p>\n\n

During the on-site tour in Menden, company owner Hermann Josef Schulte presented the Minister with various vehicles that have already been retrofitted. These included a Citaro city bus from M\u00e4rkische Verkehrsbetriebe and a light commercial vehicle, a Fiat Ducato. “Public transport fleet operators, which are mostly municipal companies, can retrofit their vehicles at a manageable financial cost,” said the Minister in Menden. <\/p>\n\n

The SCR technologies presented fit in with the overarching goal of the NRW state government, namely to reduce emissions of harmful nitrogen oxides in order to significantly improve air quality.<\/p>\n\n
