HJS systems are easy to install

Simple hardware retrofitting of SCR systems thanks to HJS Emission Technology GmbH & Co KG. Participants were able to see this for themselves at a press event in Ludwigsburg at the Tschirner and Fuchs workshop. In some cases, owners can even benefit from subsidies from vehicle manufacturers.
The first diesel driving bans for older diesel vehicles up to the Euro 5 emissions standard have been in force since the middle of last year, e.g. in the Stuttgart area. Important main arteries in the national metropolis are affected by these regulations. On the one hand, this is a decisive measure for improving air quality; on the other hand, the new regulations are causing problems for many van and motorhome drivers. This is because only the latest vehicles from the Euro 6 emissions standard are allowed to drive under these conditions.
Retrofitting older vehicles with modern exhaust technology to the level of Euro 6 vehicles has been possible for some time. Until some time ago, however, private owners of vans or motorhomes in particular were only able to obtain a corresponding registration and thus the “free ride certificate” from the registration authorities to a limited extent. In addition, appropriate solutions were not previously available for every vehicle type. However, a lot has changed in recent months, in particular private motorhome owners can now also have the necessary entry made in the vehicle documents. Accordingly, the company invited HJS from Menden in Sauerland in cooperation with the Tschirner and Fuchs car dealership in Ludwigsburg is inviting you to a press event on June 10, 2021. “Retrofitting is more sustainable than buying a new vehicle – in terms of the eco-balance, this should be a driver,” emphasized Michael Ilk, Mayor for Mobility, Technology and the Environment in Ludwigsburg.
HJS already offers retrofit solutions for many models
Attendees were able to see the conversion on an eight-year-old VW T5 California, which is used as a camper van. A time that was used for an interesting round of talks, during which Petra Tschirner, Managing Director of the dealership, mentioned: “We have around 700 T5 and T6 vehicles in our customer base alone.” Workshop foreman Manfred Bauer added: “Customer interest is high. We are therefore pleased that the HJS systems are very easy to install.”
“Systems are already available for the volume models in the VW Crafter, VW T5 (also all-wheel drive), MB Sprinter and Vito as well as Ford Transit and Iveco Daily van and tradesman segment,” emphasized Axel Middendorf from HJS. “We are already taking pre-orders for other vehicles, especially for the Fiat Ducato, which is in high demand among motorhome owners, and the start of series production is imminent.
Fast and cost-effective retrofitting thanks to subsidies from VW and the state
To support hardware retrofitting, the Volkswagen Group has now responded and is offering the prospect of a grant of up to 3,000 euros. You can find the conditions for this and the required form on the Internet at
The government was also quick to recognize the potential for reducing emissions by retrofitting diesel vehicles with nitrogen oxide reduction systems. In this context, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has launched a state subsidy. Commercial vehicle users can apply for a grant of between 3,600 and 4,800 euros, depending on the weight class of their vehicle. You can find information on the conditions of the grant on the BAV website: https://www.bav.bund.de/DE/4_Foerderprogramme/91_2_Nachruestung_Handwerker_und_Lieferfahrzeuge/

Efficient exhaust gas cleaning – even at low temperatures and in partial load operation
With the help of proven SCR technology, the innovative HJS hardware converts nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water vapor with the addition of the additive AdBlue®. This is often not safely achieved, especially in vehicles used in urban areas. Thanks to active thermal management, HJS guarantees that the SCR catalytic converter always works with the best possible NOx reduction. In order to offer the best possible guarantee, the robust HJS system was subjected to extensive test drives and test bench trials, as a result of which the control unit specially developed by HJS is used in various commercial vehicles.
