The people who work for HJS are as diverse as the areas of responsibility in our company. We are particularly proud of this. People from eleven nations work for us in over 80 professions. Every year, we take on around six to eight trainees in up to ten different professions.
The HJS company
As a family-run, medium-sized company based in Menden/Sauerland, we at HJS Emission Technology GmbH & Co. KG stand for many years of experience and expertise in the field of exhaust gas aftertreatment. With around 400 employees, we develop, manufacture and market systems and associated electrical and mechanical parts as well as components for reducing pollutant emissions and other applications.
Our company HJS was born from an innovative idea in 1976 and even after more than 45 years, enthusiasm for technology is still a key driving force for our employees, who are constantly developing new ideas, processes and products.
Our appreciation for people and the environment starts with our own company out of conviction. In addition to HJS products, the careful and responsible use of human and natural resources also plays a central role in our everyday work. Our management system is certified accordingly.
Integrity and sustainability are the pillars of our business activities. Open, honest dealings with each other, but also with business partners and customers, have been the basis for our actions in the company from day one. We therefore regularly inform and train our employees on the subject of business ethics, as well as in the areas of health care, occupational safety and environmental protection.
We are motivated by the idea that we can make the world a little bit cleaner with our products. We ensure at all times that our products do what our customers expect them to do. In this way, we take responsibility for our products and society.
Flexibility
Our process and infrastructure enables us to implement our projects flexibly and individually. We serve business models for manufacturers, operators, dealers and workshops (aftermarket). Our scope of supply ranges from pipes and canning to complete exhaust systems including sensors, actuators and peripherals (tank, pipes, cable harnesses). Modular system components are easy to integrate and shorten the time to market (Time2Market). This reduces project costs.
We guarantee customized product development based on automotive standards (PEP), tailored to specific requirement profiles. Our own catalyst laboratory with synthesis gas test bench enables simple technology screening.
Cooperation with all relevant substrate and coating manufacturers leads to optimum system design.
Our in-house control units enable the integration of components from different manufacturers and the integration of customer-specific functions. Further advantages that ensure flexibility in our work are:

- As a pioneer, we produce 3-way catalytic converters in Germany for retrofitting gasoline engines.
- We were the first company to supply ready-made assembly kits for cars to garages.

Recycling system for the automotive industry
As a system partner of PARTSLIFE GmbH, HJS makes use of the extensive range of services in the field of environmental management.
PARTSLIFE is an initiative of the independent automotive aftermarket with more than 50 contractually bound system partners from industry and trade. The focus is on responsibility in the disposal and recycling of the products of these automotive parts manufacturers and dealers. This ensures that the legal requirements, for example from the Act to Promote the Circular Economy and Ensure the Environmentally Compatible Management of Waste (KrWG), are met.
