Free ride with driving bans – be prepared now!
With over 40 years of experience in the manufacture of exhaust systems and catalytic converters, HJS has set itself the goal of industrializing retrofit emission solutions for tradesmen’s and delivery vehicles in accordance with the technical specifications of the BMVI within the shortest possible time and obtaining the necessary general operating permit in a timely manner.
For example, HJS is giving trade businesses and delivery services the opportunity to have affected vehicles retrofitted at an early stage in order to avoid driving bans in city centers from 01.09.2019.
Systems for high-volume models such as the Mercedes Sprinter and VW
Crafter will be available to order as early as the second quarter of this year in order to achieve a high level of market penetration as quickly as possible. The
product range will then be successively expanded over the course of the second half of the year.

Standard technology for retrofitting – VDA-certified
In its products for commercial vehicle retrofitting, HJS relies consistently on the SCRT® system architecture, which has been tried and tested millions of times, supplemented by active thermal management. This system design achieves significantly higher efficiency levels, particularly in the urban low-load range. The system works independently of the engine system and without secondary lines in the exhaust tract.
As a certified series supplier to the automotive industry, HJS ensures functional and manufacturing quality in accordance with the current quality standards ISO 9001:2015 and VDA 6.1/6.2.
Purchase options, installation and costs
In future, the systems can be purchased and installed by qualified vehicle workshops.
Depending on the system variant and vehicle size, the price for typical vans and tradesmen’s vehicles will be in the region of €4,000 for vehicles in the N1 category (2.8t-3.5t) and from around €5,000 for the N2 category (3.5t-7.5t) – plus the installation costs for a one-day workshop visit.
Depending on the vehicle type, around 3%-5% Adblue® of the diesel consumption can be expected, the additional fuel consumption will be less than 6%.
Background: Focus on air quality
Although air quality has continuously improved in recent years, numerous cities in Germany still exceed the nitrogen dioxide limit value of 40μg/m³ air on an annual average. In order to avoid driving bans and thus avoid financial burdens as well as usage restrictions for citizens and companies, numerous measures to reduce nitrogen oxides are being exhausted in order to maintain the mobility of all road users.
Federal government provides 333 million euros in funding
The measures include the hardware retrofitting of municipal vehicles as well as financial support for the retrofitting of tradesmen’s and delivery vehicles, for which the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI for short) is providing a sum of 333 million euros.
