HJS Strengthens Inland Waterway Shipping with Innovative SCRT® Technology

October 9, 2025

At STL – Germany’s only trade fair dedicated to inland waterway shipping – held in Kalkar on 23 and 24 September 2025, HJS Emission Technology presented forward-looking solutions for clean and efficient marine propulsion systems.

The industry is under pressure: stricter emission regulations, growing environmental awareness, and the demand for economically viable retrofit concepts are shaping the market. But a new engine is not always necessary – with the right technology, existing propulsion systems can be made fit for the future.

At the heart of the HJS exhibition stand was the new SCRT® system for high-performance engines. The core of this technology is the proven sintered metal particle filter, renowned for its long service life, low maintenance requirements, and excellent filtration efficiency.
In combination with a highly efficient SCR DeNOx system, both particulate matter and nitrogen oxides are significantly reduced – ensuring reliable compliance with the EU Stage V emission limits.

The modular system design allows for easy integration even where installation space is limited. Operators benefit from short retrofit times, high operational reliability, and attractive funding opportunities:
Up to 80% subsidies (maximum €300,000 per company) make investment in low-emission technology both ecologically and economically worthwhile.
Additional incentives, such as the Green Award with reduced port fees, offer further advantages for environmentally friendly shipping companies.

Successful Trade Fair Outcome

The STL in Kalkar proved a great success for HJS: numerous technical discussions with shipping companies, technology partners, and funding bodies demonstrated the strong interest in sustainable retrofit solutions.
The positive feedback from the industry confirms it once again – the future of inland waterway shipping is clean, with HJS as a reliable technology partner.
