Camshaft sensor

Together with the crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensors define the first cylinder. With sequential injection, this information is required for the start of injection. It is also required for the pump-nozzle injection system for the control signal of the solenoid valve and for cylinder-selective knock control.

Consequences of failure

• Engine indicator light flashes
• Saving an error code
• Control unit runs in emergency program

Causes for the failure:

• Missing connection to the control unit
• Internal short circuits
• Mechanical damage
• Breakage of the encoder wheel
